Pizza, burgers and wings plus very little workout are a recipe for obesity; and that's the problem facing many people living the United Arab Emirates with its easy access to a wide range of fast-food outlets and the sedentary lifestyle.
According to health experts, two thirds of men and almost three-quarters of women in the UAE are overweight– and when it comes to obesity, the rate is staggering. More than a quarter of men and almost 40 percent of women are obese. Now, both Emiratis and expats are turning to nutrition and weight-loss centers or gastric bypass surgery to fight the fat. One nutritionist, Rashi Chowdhary, who runs a weight-loss center in Dubai, says the number of expats using her services has doubled in the past year. She believes a lifestyle-change such as eating healthy food and doing more exercise is the key to weight loss.
