WHAT: Joe's Sizzling Hot Friday Brunch

Every Friday, from 1pm to 5pm, Joe’s Backyard hosts a lively and super cheap brunch – just AED220/£47 with sharing platters, wine, beer (including a pale and interesting Indian ale), spirits and selected cocktails. When we visited there was the option of a mason jar of Bloody Mary or a jug of sangria.
Food is brought to tables in rounds of starters: mac’n’cheese balls, chicken quesadillas, salmon pate and rustic toast and sticky spicy chicken wings. Next come the mains; we got barbecued meats and slaw. The menu also listed catch of the day, smoked corn on the cob and asparagus, but this didn’t make it to our table. Instead dessert arrived. Joe’s Sweets comprised an apple crumble and a cup of custard, cream and sponge. Both were simple, good desserts, but sharing a crumble with ice cream with multiple mouths gets messy quickly.

= Main: lamb ribs – fatty but so flavoursome
= Dessert: crumble – watch out, the plate is hot
